FOOD FACE

Look, I know we haven't chatted in a minute and damn! So much has changed during my half year of rest and relaxation. (OK, it wasn't quite that long, but that Moshfegh book really got to me and I think about it a lot.) I am, of course, referring to this worrisome timeline we find ourselves inhabiting, but also: did you know they stopped making Kiwi shoe polish? My work Docs are in sore need of sprucing up, and Kiwi's always been my go-to. I'm sure I'll make do with whatever I find, but it's kinda making me sad, knowing I won't see that cute little bird when I open the junk drawer. (That's where we keep the shoe polish. Where do you keep yours?) I made a little snack today (cottage cheese and assorted fruits) and I was all set to dish it up in a bowl, as one does. Then I remembered I've got this Food Face plate and decided to have some fun. I was teetering over the line 'twixt hungry and hangry so this is just a quickie. Future feedings might yield more elaborate decorations and perhaps require culinary tweezers! (Side note: that mango did not look promising in the store, but ended up being a superstar.) Since I was already cutting up fruit, I made a second portion for tomorrow's lunch. I do not enjoy packing my lunch, because the way I like to eat my lunch (lots of different nibbly things) means it's a pain in the ass to assemble. But my cute lunch bag makes me smile, and I suppose sometimes that's what we need to hold onto when it seems like everything's a pain in the ass: small good things like silly dishes, sunny fruits, and cheery totes.
